As someone who ventured to the park, my small group and I learned very quickly that the drive to our rest camp, was extremely long and arduous. I would not recommend staying at the southmost camp on your first night, especially if you enter through Orpen gate.
Be prepared for roadblocks. The animals of this park rule the terrain. They are to be respected and watched from a distance. If you stop your car, give them space and look from a distance, do not lean out of your window especially if one approaches you.
Wear earth tones and khaki colors as well as shorts and layers. Evenings and early mornings can be cold, and you may want a layer if you are attending a game drive.
Bring bug spray, lots and lots of bug spray. Ticks and mosquitos are a common pest. Malaria tablets are also a necessary thought to bring. I use citronella spray with while strong does a great job of deterring those little pests.
Watch where you step, snakes blend in to the terrain incredibly well and oftentimes bites are because one doesn't watch where they walk. There are walk-in guided safaris and I highly recommend doing it as the experience is unlike any other you will get.
If you see a car stopped, I recommend asking if they think they saw something. Sometimes, you may find the most incredible sighting of the day by stopping even if it is only one car.
Enjoy the beauty and gorgeous sounds of the bush. You won't get a better time to.
