Living with a host family in Kathmandu was super special. My host family owns a restaurant, Mammas Curries, which is filled with the love and warm atmosphere. My host mom, Julie ma'am, always makes the food filled with love. To make everything even more special, my host family and some of the workers with the volunteer organization, Basanta Adventures, surprised me on my 20th birthday (which I spent in Nepal) with a cake. My host family taught me how to cut up a fresh mango for desert, and they always made me feel welcome and a part of the family.
Every day after my volunteer work at the Kathmandu Central Zoo, my host dad would make black tea or coffee with biscuits for me to enjoy as I began to document the work I had done for the day in a small document. Dinner and lunch were almost always special foods from Mammas Curries, or I got special Veggie MoMos (dumplings). Breakfast before I headed out to my volunteer work , a nice 20 minute walk or so from the house to the zoo, included a nice variety of foods which involved eggs, fried dough, or toast with coffee made by my Host mom, was fantastic. I have never imagined I could have such an amazing host family - and am so grateful for their kindness.
