March of 2023 brought together many researchers and leopard enthusiasts from all over the world. During this conference, it was clear that despite the IUCN status of Vulnerable as a species, more awareness was needed. International Leopard Day is celebrated world wide on May 3 every year now since the conference officialized the special day.


Fun Facts:

  1. There are 9 subspecies of leopard spreading across Asia and Africa

  2. IUCN Statuses of each subspecies ranges from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered

  3. Leopards are known as umbrella species, keystone species, and flagship species

  4. Leopards are known to be the most adaptable of the big cats

  5. The Arabian Leopard is the smallest subspecies, whereas the Persian Leopard is the largest
